Destination Guide--Alaska

The Alaska season will be here before we know it, since it is already the middle of February. To that end, I would like to take a few moments today to start with some Alaska destination guides, in an effort to help you decide if an Alaska cruise or vacation is for you.
The largest state in the US, Alaska is more than twice the size of Texas, and is America's "final frontier." Here you can enjoy unique experiences such as: Wilderness walks, wildlife viewing, fjord and glacier cruising, Gold Rush towns and historical museums, even the occasional moose wandering the streets of Anchorage.
Southeast Alaska epitomizes what most travellers think of as "classic" Alaskan scenery, with its fjords, glaciers, icebergs, mountains and forests. It is also one of the top cruise destinations in the world, due to the fact that there are few, if any, roads in most of the area, leaving it unspoiled and accessible only by ship or by air. The Inside Passage teems with whales, sea lions, eagles and other wildlife that are often easily seen from your balcony or the decks of the ship. The scenery, as can be noted from my picture of a calving glacier in Glacier Bay above, is unparalleled.
In the interior of the state, the can't miss destination is Denali National Park, home of the highest mountain in the United States--Mt. McKinley, and a pristine wilderness.
Despite Alaska's reputation for high prices and winters that are inhospitable at best, it is a destination worth every dollar spent, and is a once in a lifetime experience that should not be missed.
